Who We Are
The Foundation for Building is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization that encourages environmentally conscious behaviors so that future generations can benefit and are motivated to continue sustainable practices in their community. We accomplish this through environmental education, advocacy, and effective partnerships. We are driven by results and relevancy, and focus on leveraging our resources through beneficial collaborations.

We are dedicated to improving the sustainability, energy performance, and livability of our built environment.
The Foundation for Building takes great pride in creating and collaborating on programs to help make the built environment more sustainable and resilient. With each project, we hope to move our community not towards incremental changes, but towards transformative, lasting ones. One such initiative is our award-winning and nationally recognized Build Green New Mexico program, which has allowed over 10,000 new homes in New Mexico to be built to rigorous energy-efficient and healthy-living standards. All of our programs are designed and developed to create similar results.
The Hummingbird – Long the symbol of tenacity and resilience to Native Americans, the hummingbird has been known to fly non-stop for thousands of miles and to adapt to new conditions quickly. Able to change directions instantly, the hummingbird’s wing flutter pattern is the perfect symbol of infinity and represents the lasting values of the Foundation for Building. We have adopted the hummingbird as a symbol of our commitment to sustainability and resilience.
